whenever i hear girls talk about their shame around being single their whole lives, a virgin, or not being romantically pursued it makes me so sad because i know what it’s like to feel left behind and feeling pressured to rush the process n it doesn’t help that we live in a world where women learn to tie their identity to relationships, little do they know that being single is truly a misunderstood blessing and a safety net. and had I had a older mentor inform me the virtue of patience and discipline with love and transparency instead of using language that shelters me, i honestly would’ve waited to date. would’ve saved myself so much trauma and disappointment due to immaturity and simply not being emotionally ready to handle what is out there.
came across a tweet that said “I can’t emphasize how important it is to decenter romantic relationships, especially as a woman” and it reminded me of this post I made a month ago.
i truly take pride in being single. but i hate how in my teen years and early adulthood (that i’m in now) i get shamed for this. like my ex therapist always made me feel like shit for not having a boyfriend and not being interested in dating.
i got so much other things going on in my life, a relationship is the last thing i want. yea, having a bf would be nice, but having a partner is not the biggest goal in life and i wish people would stop treating it like it is.
